Gabrielle Steinwachs

Research associate

Gabrielle Steinwachs is a child welfare researcher focused on translating data into actionable policy and practice reforms.

At Action Research, she supports federal court-appointed monitoring teams overseeing class action child welfare litigation settlements in Texas, Michigan, and New Mexico: analyzing child welfare administrative data to assess progress toward system- wide reforms, verify compliance with court-ordered performance benchmarks, and develop and refine methodologies for measuring outcomes. Her recent work includes leading a strategic consulting initiative examining child protection hotline practices and alternative response strategies, and contributions to a statewide assessment of mandated reporting practices in New Jersey.

Before joining Action Research, Gabrielle worked with nonprofit organizations, behavioral health service providers, schools, and government agencies. She has led multi-year, cross-system initiatives spanning data analysis, evaluation, continuous quality improvement (CQI), and healthcare system transformation. Gabrielle has provided supervision and support to children entering foster care and has supported adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities transitioning from institutional care into community homes.

She holds an MA in Psychology with a concentration in clinical research and a BA in Psychology, both from the State University of New York at Brockport.
