Gabrielle Steinwachs

Research associate

Gabrielle Steinwachs is a behavioral health researcher with experience in evaluation, performance improvement through data-informed decision making, and clinical intervention. She is interested in primary prevention, the mitigation of symptoms of trauma, and interventions that help families remain intact and prevent maltreatment.

Prior to joining Action Research, Gabrielle led community-based organizations and state-wide agencies to develop, implement, and evaluate programs and services in the behavioral health and social services sector. Her team collaborated with Monroe County Department of Human Services and the City of Rochester, NY to design and implement a centralized method to process and disperse over 40 million dollars in rental assistance directly to community members. Gabrielle monitored agency performance and supported 14 community-based organizations to use administrative data to leverage their strengths, estimate funding requirements, and monitor compliance. Gabrielle has provided supervision and support to children entering foster care and has supported adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities transitioning from institutional care into community homes.

Gabrielle received her bachelor’s and master’s degree in psychology from the State University of New York at Brockport with a specialty in clinical research. Her master’s thesis explored differences in post-traumatic stress symptom severity in adults who experienced child physical, sexual, and/or emotional abuse, and whether they disclosed their experiences in childhood, adulthood, or they never disclosed.
